Shuswap Rowing Club Sends Team to BC Summer Games – Salmon Arm Observer

Continuing a successful season, Shuswap Rowing and Paddling Club is sending a team to the upcoming BC Summer Games in Prince George.

The Summer Games follow the Island Summer Regatta from July 8th to 10th at Elk Lake in Victoria. There, Shuswap rowers put on several strong performances.

In their C final, the duo Heidi Miege and Hannah Breugem (U17 women’s doubles sculls) prevailed, while Peter Ely and Ian Van Bergeyk (U17 men’s doubles sculls) finished second.

In the U19 mixed sculls, Aida Mills, Julia Reed, Ian VanBergeyk and Peter Ely took third place.

Aida Mills and Julia Reed finished fifth in the U19 Novice women’s doubles sculls, and Kirsten Ely and Aida Mills placed fifth in the B-finals of the U17 women’s doubles sculls.

Coaches Doris Mills and David Miege crossed the finish line first together in the Masters mixed sculls event and later rowed with Brian Peutz and Dirk Breugem to finish fourth in the Masters sculls.

The following seven athletes and two coaches from Salmon Arm will represent Zone 2 at the BC Summer Games: Hannah Breugem, Jonathan Breugem, Kirsten Ely, Heidi Miege, Aida Mills, Molly Tudan, Ian VanBergeyk, rowing coach David Miege and rowing coach Doris Mühlen.

The BC Summer Games will take place from July 20th to 24th, 2022 with the rowing facility at Nadsilnichsee.

For youth interested in trying rowing, the Shuswap Rowing Club hosts a Try a Row event in early August. Teens are encouraged to stop by, hop on a boat and see how much fun rowing can be. Email: [email protected] for more information.
