RSU Marathon Winners Earn Cash Prizes

A Marine Engineering undergraduate, Oluoh Prince Ugochukwu has emerged the overall winner of the just concluded Mini Marathon race organized by Rivers State University (RSU) Students Union Government (SUG) in partnership with Ahava Yada Academy Readers Club, in the School.
The event which was witnessed by a huge crowd was also part of the activities to mark the week long SUG events, last week.
Speaking to Tidesports, shortly after the race, President, Ahava Yada Academy Readers Club, RSU chapter, Obinuchi Timothy expressed gratitude to God for the successful execution of the race.
“I thank God it was safe from the beginning till the end.
“This mini marathon is the first since the University was established and our club is the first to host it. We are indeed very glad.
“ The objective of Ahava Yada Academy Readers Club is to bring students close to their books and expose them to healthy physical exercises. While busy with their books, there is the need to also include exercise, hence the idea of the mini marathon”, Timothy said.
According to him, about 228 persons(males and females) registered for the race in which the first position in both categories got N50, 000 each, second position in both categories got N30, 000 each, while third positions got N20, 000 each and all the winners received their cash prizes immediately.
In his reactions the overall winner of the race Ugochukwu an under graduate student of the department of Marine Engineering said, “This is my breakthrough moment. I thank God for the strength and I commend the organisers for providing this wonderful opportunity”
At the end of the race in the male category, Gbaraneh Zorbari and Johnson Barida Emmanuel clinched second and third positions, respectively.
While in the female category, Nicholas Deborah emerged winner, as Pepple Isaac and Jim JaJa Ngowari Henshaw took second and third positions respectively.
