Puttin joins communications staff, Slarks moves to men’s hockey, rowing

Olivia Putin joined the staff of the University of Minnesota Athletic Communication today and will serve as the primary media relations contact for the football and softball programs. Scott Sharpswho has previously worked with soccer and softball will now lead all communications efforts for the men’s hockey and rowing programs.

Puttin returns to Minnesota after a two-year stint as a research assistant at the University of Georgia, where she worked with the women’s basketball, soccer and equestrian teams. A native of Rogers, Minnesota, Puttin played college soccer at Minnesota’s Crookston. She was a goaltender for the Golden Eagles from 2016 to 2018 and also worked in the school’s sports information department.

Puttin spent 2019 as a student assistant at the Sports Communications Office on Minnesota’s flagship campus. She worked with the Minnesota women’s tennis team and worked at numerous events and championships hosted by the Gophers. She was also a special events intern at the 3M Open in 2019 before going to Georgia

Slarks joined Minnesota’s communications department in December 2021, working with the football and softball teams. A native of Owatonna, Minnesota, he returned to Minnesota after a successful stint at Oral Roberts where he was an assistant AD and worked with the men’s basketball team and numerous other programs.

Slarks has also worked in sports communications at Rogers State, Park University, Southern Illinois University Edwardsville and Millsaps College. He also has extensive play-by-play and analyst experience. Slarks started his career at Gustavus Adolphus College, where he was a student assistant in the communications office for four years while attending school.
