MVP back on track with training camps for student athletes

Bruce James, President of the MVP Track & Field Club

Special Invited student-athletes across Jamaica will once again benefit from the world-class track and field training camps offered by the MVP Track & Field Club.

The training camps will be held over the next three weekends in the three Jamaican counties to ensure accessibility and extensive coverage of schools in Jamaica.

The MVP Athletics Club’s grassroots training program is for high school students and athletes from all 14 communities and their coaches. The camps provide access to world-class sprint, relay, jump, throw, distance and hurdle training methods.

The coaches, led by MVP Track & Field Club Head Coach Paul Francis, will guide the 100+ student-athletes per camp through the intricacies of each of the above athletic skills.

MVP Track & Field Club President Bruce James said he is excited about the return of island-wide training camps after a two-year hiatus due to the novel coronavirus pandemic.

“These MVP training camps have been held annually for seven consecutive years starting in 2013. Of course, we did not continue the program during the peak of the pandemic. The health and welfare of student-athletes will always be our priority.” he said.

International sportswear company Puma provides all sports students attending the MVP training camps with Puma gear, including shirts, hats and bags. Puma also provided over 100 pairs of Puma running shoes, which will be allocated to participants.

Wisynco, with its WATA, Powerade, Tru-Juice and Tru-Shake brands, is the official hydration partner of MVP Grassroots Training Camps, ensuring all student-athletes are well hydrated throughout the program. National Commercial Bank Jamaica Limited is the official financial partner of the program and will, among other things, share strategies on financial literacy with all participants.

In addition, the Sports Development Foundation continues its long history of supporting the MVP training camps and affirms that this program is aligned with the SDF’s mission to develop Jamaica through sports.

The dates and locations of the camps are:

• Saturday 15 October 2022 – GC Foster College, St Catherine

• Saturday, October 22, 2022 – Montego Bay Sports Complex, St. James

• Saturday 29 October 2022 – National Stadium, Kingston.
