Men’s track and field wins two events at the Utica Winter Opener

of Hamilton College Andrew Harrell ’23 placed first in the men’s 5,000-meter dash at the 2022 Utica College Track & Field Winter Opener on Saturday.

The Continentals finished fifth with 50 points out of 15 teams that scored at the Hutton Sports & Recreation Center. SUNY Cortland secured the team title with 137 points.

Harrell clocked a time of 15:07.37 and qualified for the All-Atlantic Region Track & Field Conference (AARTFC) Championships. NickLyon ’22 was ninth in the 5,000 meters with a time of 15:37.42.

Hamilton took first place in the 4x200m relay with a winning time of 1:35.49. Josh Harmsen ’23, Corey Jones ’23, Peter Cuomo ’24 and Michael Ngaw ’25 were the members of this triumphant squadron.

Harmsen qualified for the final of the 60-meter dash, finishing fifth. He clocked a time of 7.23 seconds in the heats. Saleh Eltayeb ’24 also qualified for the final with a time of 7.27 seconds.

Bram Mansbach ’24 qualified for the AARTFC Championships, finishing sixth in the 3,000m with a time of 8:48.81. Benjamin Ingram ’25 finished sixth in the 1,000m (2:45.09) and Rasich Showcat ’25 finished seventh in the 500m (1:13.32).

George Brady ’23 done 12th of 64 runners in the mile run (4:27.61) and James Gallagher ’24 was less than a second behind in 13th place (4:27.94).

Eltayeb took third place in the triple jump with 13.19 meters and Cuomo was fourth with 12.38 meters. Ben Jakubczak ’23 finished sixth in the long jump with a jump of 6.21 meters.

The Continentals will host their own Hamilton Invitational at Margaret Bundy Scott Field House on Friday, January 21 at 4 p.m
