Liam Blake signs NLI to join track and field/cross country teams

Youngstown State Superintendent of Athletics Brian Gorby announced Thursday that Liam Blake has signed a national letter of intent to compete in Youngstown State’s men’s track and cross-country programs for the 2022-23 season.

“Liam is a talented young athlete with a lot of potential to build on our continued success in many distance events and on the cross country circuit,” said Gorby. “We are delighted to have Liam join Coach Rupe’s program here in Youngstown State.”

During Blake’s 2021 senior cross-country season, a two-time state qualifier helped Marlington win a team title at the OHSAA State Cross-Country Championships with a personal best of 16:05.00 en route to a 15th of Division II to winth-Place the grand total in a field of 180 runners.

Previously, Blake finished fourth in singles at the Eastern Buckeye Conference Championships with Marlington’s third fastest time of the race of 16:32.93. During the regular season, Blake had four top-10 finishes while serving as team captain of the Duke, a team that topped all of Division II for part of the season as Ohio State’s #1 team.

At the track, the Alliance, Ohio native holds personal bests of 52.88 at 400m, 2:00.11 at 800m and 4:28.15 at 1600m.
