LEXINGTON, Ky. – Freshmen Jackson Watts of the University of Kentucky Men’s Cross-Country was named Freshman Run of the Week at the Southeastern Conference on Friday, October 15, after competing in the men’s Garnet 8K at the Florida State University Invitational / Pre-Nationals on Friday, October 15.

Watts led all UKXC newbies with a 178th place (24: 49.5) and was among the top five true newcomers on the SEC.

“I am blessed to have the ability to work hard and do what I love every day,” said Watts.

Watts trainer, Hakon DeVries, has enjoyed growing since he started operating in the UK.

“I’m very excited about Jackson’s growth as a runner so far this fall,” said DeVries. “I’m looking forward to him building on last week’s momentum in the pre-nationals and bringing the same competitive attitude and toughness to his first SEC championship.”

Arkansas, Florida, Ole Miss, Georgia, Auburn, Tennessee, and Alabama were the SEC teams that joined Kentucky in the pre-Nationals.

The newcomer from Slaughters, Kentucky, has now participated in three games for the Wildcats, underscored by a 16th (25: 36.0) place in the men’s open five-mile race at the Joe Piane Notre Dame Invitational.

Watts will again compete in the SEC Cross Country Championships 2021 in Columbia, Missouri at the University of Missouri on Friday, October 29th.
