February 21, 2022 – Helena Smolock was nominated for 2022 Business Person of the Year in Blaine, WA. The nomination is the second in a row for Helena, who was previously nominated for the same position in 2021 from which she ultimately emerged as the winner. Helena is the Founder and President of Velocity Athletic Training and was previously in Alignable’s top 25 business mentors in the US in August 2021, placing 13th out of 25 talented business mentors.
Born and raised in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, where she began her career as a fitness professional, Helena has over 35 years of experience in the fitness industry and founded her Velocity Athletic Training brand to help more people on their journey to a healthier lifestyle with an athletic twist to your workout.
A certified personal trainer and registered nutritionist with 3 years training in kinesiology, she moved to the United States in 2019 to live with her American husband. When Helena received her work permit in June 2020 during COVID19, she saw firsthand the crippling impact the pandemic was having on businesses and was forced to tweak her business model a bit so she could adapt to the changing times.
In 2022, Helena Smolock hosted her first virtual RECLAIM Summit with speakers from the US and Canada. Helena also recently launched the AMER/CAN Virtual Featured Business Person, in which she selects people to showcase her business and explains how, when and why they got involved in the first place.
“The premise of AMER/CAN stems from the influx of online businesses. We want to confirm that the other person is who they are and are running a legitimate business. They share their journey as well as their motivation for choosing the particular business in which they have become rooted and adept.”
Barely a week after being included in the top 25 business mentors in the USA, the experienced fitness expert received her green card. As the founder of Velocity Athletic Training, Helena encourages and motivates sports in communities around the world. Through her nonprofit organization called The Kelly Ghaday Youth in Sport Foundation, Helena Smolock offers hope to underprivileged youth in communities by sponsoring a select youth athlete whose parent(s) are struggling to make ends meet.
