New Park University Gilbert head coach Jack Hartley signed the floor this week by signing letters of intent to four athletes to study at Park Gilbert and play football for the Buccaneers.

In alphabetic order

Hallie Benson

Hallie Benson attended Alta High School in Sandy, Utah. The utility player played football for Alta, but cut through as the captain of her club team Utah Blitz FC, for which she played for four years. A two-sport athlete, Benson also completed four years of college track for her high school and excelled in the classroom, where she stood on the high honor roll, received an academic letter and an honors degree.

Benson will be studying psychology at Park Gilbert and hopes to work in marriage and family therapy.

Maddie Gomes

Maddie Gomes graduated from Cherokee Trail High School in Aurora, Colorado, where she received her first college letter during her senior citizen campaign with the Cougars. Although she only played one season of high school soccer, the midfielder played five seasons of club ball for Colorado Rapids Youth Soccer – a youth division of Colorado’s MLS team.

Off the pitch, Gomes received a number of awards for her classroom performance. Among them, she was a recipient of the International Baccalaureate Diploma, on the Cherokee Trail Honor Roll, received the Renaissance and Administration Department Awards, and was a member of the National Art Honors Society. She was also a member of the Colorado Girl Scouts.

At Park Gilbert, Gomes will be in business administration and hopes to work in sports management.

Payton Simpson

Payton Simpson, this week’s only local recruit, played her high school career at Queen Creek High School in Queen Creek, Arizona, where she was College Letterman for two years. In her two college seasons, the midfielder helped the Bulldogs hit a 13-10-1 record en route to state tournament appearances in both seasons.

In addition to her time at Queen Creek, Simpson played club soccer for three years for Real Salt Lake, who competed in a state tournament while with the club.

Simpson will be studying criminal justice at Gilbert Park with the aim of becoming an FBI profiler.

Alexandria Thomas

Alexandria Thomas joins Park Gilbert from Pebble Hills High School in El Paso, Texas, where she earned four college letters as a forward and midfielder for the Spartans. During her high school career, she scored 26 goals and was a member of the first women’s soccer team playoff appearance in school history. Thomas was also twice a high school honor roll member and wrestled during her junior year.

While playing for Pebble Hills, Thomas also played club soccer for the West Texas Rush Predators for seven years, helping the club win consecutive championships. Thomas comes from a family of talented soccer players and has two relatives who played Division I soccer.

With three years of experience working with the Pebble Hills athletic training program, Thomas will be studying Sports and Exercise Science at Park Gilbert in hopes of owning a gym and rehabilitation center for athletes.

The quartet of new signings marks Hartley’s first official signatory as the Buccaneers head coach – just over a month after officially taking over the head coaching robe; all four athletes are graduates of the 2021 class.
