Hailing from Vancouver, Washington, Harmon was originally hired by the Bulldogs in 2018 as the head coach of the women’s cross-country skiing and athletics programs. She was given the additional duties of interim cross-country and track and field trainer for men in spring 2021 after long-time Bulldogs trainer Paul Nisius retired. That tentative title was removed in early May when she was named head of all four teams.

“It was an honor to be the head coach of the Bulldog men’s and women’s cross country and track and field programs,” Harmon said in a UMD press release. “This decision is filled with mixed feelings because every single athlete and this program is so close to my heart.”

In her three seasons at UMD, Harmon trained a pair of athletics All-Americans in Danielle Kohlwey and Haliegh Reindl. Kohlwey, the 2019 NCAA Division II indoor athletics champion in the 60-meter hurdles, was a three-time All-American under Harmon, while Reindl was a two-time All-American.

Harmon was one of only two women who ran men’s programs at the NSIC. Prior to UMD, she trained at a trio of NCAA Division I schools including Sacramento State, Texas Christian, and Oregon State. She was the captain of the Oregon cross country and track and field teams for two years after graduating in 2005.

A search for Harmon’s successor will begin immediately, the university announced.
