Gopher’s Open Action in Sarasota

SARASOTA, Fla. — The second annual B1G Invitational kicked off Friday with two sessions on the water for the Gopher rowing program at Nathan Benderson Park.

As one of 16 programs participating in the event — including 10 nationally ranked teams — Minnesota was led by a runner-up from the First Varsity Eight on Friday morning.

The Gophers conclude the B1G Invitational on Saturday, April 16 at 7:30 pm CT.

Summary on Friday morning
The Maroon & Gold were led by a second-place finisher in the First Varsity Eight on Friday morning as the Gophers clocked a time of 6:30.510 — less than two seconds behind No. 10 Duke with 6:28.757. Minnesota added a trio of third-place finishers in the session, from the Second Varsity Four at 7:58.797, the First Novice Eight at 7:24.323, and the Third Varsity Four at 7:47.870. The Second Varsity Eight ran in 6:50.901 and the Second Novice Eight in 7:38.536 as both boats finished fourth in their races.

Review Friday afternoon
Minnesota finished the opening day of the B1G Invitational with five third places and two fourth places. The First Novice Eight opened the session with a third-place finish in 7:06.978, followed by repeated results from the Third Varsity Four in 7:57.426, the Second Novice Eight in 7:23.638, the Second Varsity Four in 7:53.195 and the First Uni Eight at 6:40,900. The Second Varsity Eight clocked a time of 7:01.583 and the First Varsity Four a time of 7:55.131, with both boats finishing in fourth place to finish the day.
