Bison hosts # 12 Northern Iowa at Saturday’s homecoming soccer game

IN THIS WEEK: Fifth place North Dakota State (4-0, 1-0 MVFC) receives 12th place North Iowa (3-1, 1-0 MVFC) in the annual home game on Saturday, October 9th at 1pm in Gate City Bank field at the Fargodome (18,700). The Panthers, who held Iowa State to touchdown in a 16-10 loss on the opening weekend, have won three straight games after their 34-7 homecoming win over Youngstown State last week.

THE SERIES: This is the 55th meeting between the state of North Dakota and northern Iowa. NDSU has won seven consecutive sessions and ten of the last eleven to take a 28-26 lead in the all-time series dating back to 1938. UNI is 1-6 in the Fargodome. The Panthers won 42-27 on their first visit in 2009.

LAST YEAR: Christian Watson scored on a 100 yard kickoff return to make up a 6-0 deficit and NDSU led the rest of the way in last year’s 23:20 win in Northern Iowa. Jake Reinholz shot a 42-yard field goal to end the first half with a 10-6 lead. This is Northern Iowa’s fourth appearance at the NDSU homecoming. The Panthers lost 42:14 in 1978, 31:28 in 2015 and 46:14 in 2019. The Bison have won nine consecutive homecoming games since losing consecutive 2009 to Illinois State (27:24) and 2010 to Western Illinois (28-16).

KLABO ARE USED: Former NDSU offensive lineman Chuck Klabo will be inducted into the 49th grade of the Bison Athletic Hall of Fame on Friday, October 8, and will be featured on the field at halftime of the game on Saturday. Klabo was an All-America Left tackle on the 2000 NCAA Division II semi-final team that went 12-2 overall. He was a four-year-old starter, two-time All-Region Award winner, and two-time All-North Central Conference pick. Klabo was invited to the all-star Rotary Gridiron Classic and the 2003 NFL Combine before spending two seasons with the Cleveland Browns organization. Tickets for the induction ceremony on Friday are sold out, but the event will be streamed live on GoBison.com/allaccess. NO. 1 RUSHING ATTACK: The state of North Dakota remains number 1 in the FCS averaging 317.0 yards per game. The Bison are the only team in the FCS over 300 yards per game on the ground and also lead the entire Division I with 7.08 yards per carry (before the school record of 6.41 in 1988 and almost the same in 2018 and 2019). . Only Air Force (367.4) and Army (318.2) average more rushing yards per game in Division I.
